Our Suppliers

Our fabulous suppliers are the key to our business.

We aim to support the Australian industry where possible, so many of our yarns come from local producers. Being a smaller retailer, we are also able to source many of our products from small-scale producers – people who love yarn as much as we do, and who enjoy sharing their passion with others.

Intambo – Yarn wholesaler dedicated to bringing the best of South Africa’s yarn to the Australian market. Jacqui’s suppliers support their local communities in some capacity from employment to support during crisis. Vinnis Colours is one of Jacqui’s suppliers.

Vinni’s Colours – Based in Capetown. Employs and supports locals, who in turn support Vinni.

GORWM – Permies growing Alpaca and fruit. All yarn processing happens locally. For their own fleece, the waste water is used in the orchard. No scouring chemicals or dyes. This is yarn as the gods intended.

Heirloom – Australia’s last industrial wholesale spinner. Scoured in Geelong. All other Australian yarn companies send their fleece overseas for scouring and spinning.

New Zealand Wool Company -possum/merino yarn
Possums are a pest introduced by Australians, trying to establish a fur industry. When this venture failed, the possums were released into the wild. With no natural predators, possums now number in the millions and cause habitat destruction. Utiku yarns uses possum fur blended with NZ merino. The benefits are many

  • Reduced damage to local environment – fewer possums.
  • Yarn is produced using local products – reduced carbon footprint
  • Yarn itself is of brilliant quality – soft, warm, light and doesn’t pill

NZ ironically did get a fur industry from their pesky possums and as a result, have an international reputation for their possum/merino yarn.

Clover – beautiful and beautifully designed hooks, needles and notions. We have access to Ascot Distribution – exclusive wholesaler to Clover, Japan. I actually struggle with other hooks now.

Bamboo needles – crafted from sustainably produced bamboo. Strong and do not make wool fuzzy. Nice to hold.
